Xiaomi Mi 6, Mi 6 Plus Prices and Variants Leaked Online

The past week has seen a few leaks and rumours regarding Xiaomi’s next Mi 6 flagship smartphone. On Friday, some leaked renders of the smartphone surfaced online, further hinting at a dual camera setup for the back along with a possible April 11 launch date. Now, another rumour seems to list the price of the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus in all expected models.

Xiaomi Mi 6, Mi 6 Plus Prices and Variants Leaked Online

According to a leak by GizChina the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 6 will allegedly be launched in 4GB of RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB + 64GB, and 6GB + 128GB variants priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 19,000), CNY 2,299 (roughly Rs. 21,800) and CNY 2,699 (roughly Rs. 25,600), respectively. The bigger Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus, on the other hand is tipped to be be offered in 4GB of RAM + 64GB storage, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB, which will reportedly be priced at CNY 2,599 (roughly Rs. 24,700), CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 28,500) and CNY 3,499 (roughly Rs. 33,200), respectively.

Of course, without an official confirmation from the company, one should take these models and prices with a pinch of salt. However, if they do remain true, the prices seem very competitive, which one has come to expect from the company. The previous Mi 5 flagship was priced extremely well in India and the smartphone itself ticked all the right boxes in our review and Xiaomi will look to take it up a notch with the Mi 6 smartphone.

From what we know so far, the Mi 6 Plus flagship has been tipped to sport a Quad HD 2K OLED display with dual curved edges and dual rear camera setup, while the Mi 6 will allegedly sport a flat display. Both the flagships are expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and come with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 technology for fast charging support. The smartphone is also expected to house a 4000mAh battery, although this will likely be for the Mi 6 Plus. Once again, we would like to remind our readers no specifications have been announced by the company just yet.

Know everything about the react Js

Earlier the dependency of the web applications was quite high on the MVC but considering the loopholes in its design, there was a need to design something that was more effective and that was when the React JS came into the picture. Learn the concepts in detail in your react JS online training and check out the basics about it here before you take a react JS certification in Chicago.

React is a JS library that is brought in use to build UI that are compostable in nature. There are many reasons due to which the react is considered as the perfect replacement. It provides a virtual DOM to the developers and ensures that even when the templates are not used, the views of the interface are powerful and appealing to the users. There are often cases when the data flow is in only one direction and that creates problems but with the help of react, unidirectional flow of data can be enabled.

One important feature of react JS is that it consists of the components that can be easily reused across different places in the application. Right from reusing the stances of the codes to the process of testing, reusability is high in case of react thus ensuring that different types of concerns are kept separated and tackled with ease.

Often people confuse react to be similar to what view is in the MVC but it is not just the view that is provided by the react to an application and there is much more to it. Right from helping you get the desired view to rendering different components in the model and development of the application it does it all.

The components are a major part of the react and even before you begin with the process, it is important to define and declare the components. Since the process of rendering is very important in react, it is important to use these components effectively as they will help you in doing the declarations and doing the needed configuration. As soon as the declaration is done, the process of rendering would begin. The next thing that needs to be defined is the parts of the components. These parts are known as the parameters. You have to define the parameters so that the process of putting the entire data in the forms of hierarchy begins.

There are a lot of advantages of using the react JS in comparison to using the other frameworks. The speedy development process and easy delivery to the client is first in the list. The number of handlers used in the react is very limited and that helps in improving the process of delivery. Unlike other programming languages which involves long list of codes, parameters, etc. the process of learning the react is quite simplified. Since you don’t need to have any knowledge of anything else before you begin with this, it is easy to get started with it in no time.

Instagram is the latest nexus of the Marines photo sharing scandal

Following the revelation that a private Facebook group with 30,000 members targeted female Marines in a non-consensual photo sharing ring, other toxic online communities are popping up — and proving that the Marines United scandal is by no means an isolated incident.

This week, a group known as Just The Tip Of The Spear, commonly abbreviated JTTOTS, was booted from Instagram for violating its community standards. The group, named for a sexual innuendo remixed with military jargon, previously thrived on Facebook but also maintained an Instagram account. Neither Instagram nor the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) responded to TechCrunch’s request for comment on the account.

JTTOTS, fittingly called a “hatred factory” by one Reddit user, gained a following among Marines over the years for its brutal humor, often ridiculing unsuspecting service members caught doing something the account deemed to be funny enough to post. Archived posts from the group appear elsewhere online, demeaning individual Marines for everything from eating too many cheese fries to wearing their “dress blues” at the wrong time. It frequently veers into doxing, posting often unredacted photos of women for just about any infraction: dating multiple Marines on a base, deadlifting heavy or even just being attractive.

One current USMC active duty lance corporal who spoke with TechCrunch recalled the experience of seeing her own photos crop up on the group’s Instagram account. The Marine provided verification of her identity but asked that TechCrunch maintain her anonymity due to the retaliatory culture of these groups.

“JTTOTS typically posts military humor but ventures into degrading both male and female marines,” she told TechCrunch via private messaging, noting that the account has been around for years, and was “extremely active” between 2012 and 2015. “The admins of JTTOTS are former and active marines who thrive off of degrading and intimidating others. They’re a disgrace.”

Starting in 2014, her pictures began surfacing on JTTOTS. The photos depicted her in uniform accompanied by a post asking followers to say whether they’d “smash or pass” their fellow Marine in a sexually violent version of the game “hot or not.” The photos were culled from her public social media accounts, but they invited a wave of unwanted attention and harassment — exactly what the group does best.

“I was too scared of retaliation to report,” she explained. She stayed quiet out of concern that “they’d find explicit pics of me from an ex or someone would make up something and try to ruin my career.”

Because members can submit content and direct the group’s attention, she named one member in particular as a “predator to the very core of the word” who “preys on current and past female Marines” by posting their photos and harassing them.

That incident and others have been reported to the NCIS, which is now in possession of her photos. While she couldn’t comment on specifics of her conversations with NCIS, she confirmed that she has spoken with the internal law enforcement agency about JTTOTS and that she and other victims have provided NCIS with photos from posts that targeted female Marines.

The JTTOTS account is so infamous among Marines that its ubiquity has attained full meme status. “JTTOTS is always watching” is a viral reminder across social networks, and a warning that implies anyone can be named and shamed at any time.

Naturally, the group’s admins and members don’t look kindly on anyone reporting their bad behavior. “Their Instagram posted photos of myself and my friends harassing us saying we’re ‘fake’ victims of sexual harassment,” the Marine told TechCrunch.

Communities like JTTOTS also skewer male Marines who stand up for “wooks,” a derogatory, half-joking epithet for a female Marine. Those men are often ridiculed as white knights and “blue falcons,” a play on the phrase “buddy fuck” as in “fucking your buddy over.”

As another Reddit user recently put it, JTTOTS and Marines United have a lot in common:

“Feels a lot to me like the JTTOTS series of pages on FB. I used to have JTTOTS “liked” but I had to get away from it. It was about 50/50 funny shit of Marines just busting balls, and downright hateful shit about people’s wives / girlfriends… Not all of their stuff is bad, but some of it was beyond disrespectful. But I also realized that many had tried to take down JTTOTS and failed miserably. I won’t win that fight either.”

The JTTOTS phenomenon is not new. In 2014, veterans blog Task & Purpose published an in depth report on the group called “The Sexist Facebook Movement The Marine Corps Can’t Stop.” In screenshots from the group’s old Facebook page (it appears to live under a new account, though there are many unaffiliated Facebook spin-offs including “JTTOTS II”), the group’s culture depicts one of frequent harassment, rampant misogyny and retaliatory doxing.

A 2014 NPR story also detailed the group’s toxic culture. In an interview, Afghanistan veteran Katherine Keleher explained how her photos appeared on JTTOTS three separate times. “They posted pictures of me and they were commenting about wanting to rape me, or saying I looked like a man, or things of that nature,” Keleher told NPR.

As one of the most popular Marine Corps-focused viral social accounts, JTTOTS played a formative role in incubating its virulent strain of online military culture.

“These pages are pretty expansive across social media, including Instagram and Snapchat,” Marine Lance Corporal and Terminal Lance founder Maximilian Uriarte told TechCrunch. “[They’re] all spun off of each other. It all goes back to F’n Boot and JTTOTS years ago.”

Even with the national spotlight trained on the developing scandal and some top brass testifying before the Marines Senate Armed Services Committee, it’s not obvious that change is imminent. Like other containers for toxic online behavior, these accounts have a way of mutating, spreading and surviving scrutiny, fully insulated from the repercussions that govern real-life social interactions.

Tesla’s Kauai solar facility will offset 1.6M gallons of fuel use per year

Tesla’s Kauai solar power facility is officially open for business as of Friday, with a 13 MW SolarCity solar farm installation providing power to a Powerpack storage facility with 52 MWh of total capacity. The beauty of the new facility, in terms of the specific needs of the sun-soaked island in the Pacific, is that it can capture energy from the sun during peak daytime production hours, and then keep that power ready for peak consumption hours at night.

This is a relatively new reality for solar power generation, made possible by Tesla’s Powerpack tech, which is essentially the commercial version of its Powerwall home storage batteries. Hawaii is already a big solar power consumer, which makes sense for the same reason it makes sense that the state is such a draw to tourists, too. But Tesla’s initiative is the first to answer the problem of peak production time overlapping almost exactly with times where need for power is at its lowest.

Tesla’s new solar facility in Kauai isn’t going to completely reduce its dependence on fossil fuels — the island will still rely on diesel shipped in to provide some of its power requirements. But the new facility will offset some of that use of dirty burning fuel, reducing overall usage of fossil fuels for power needs by around 1.6 million gallons per year.

The new energy project was developed by Tesla for the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, and it’s the biggest solar storage facility in the world, according to KIUC president and CEO David Bissell. It occupies a field that was once used to grow sugarcane. The project is a key part of Hawaii’s goal of using 100 percent renewable energy by 2045, and for Tesla, it’s the perfect way to demonstrate how it can deploy these kinds of facilities to fit similar needs around the world.

KIUC’s Tesla solar plant uses Powerpack 2, Tesla’s second-generation commercial storage, which is made at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada. The project began with an RFP issued by KIUC in 2014, which led to a year of discussions between itself, Tesla and Grove Farms, which owns the land upon which it’s built. In 2016, the companies struck a deal and Solar City brought Tesla in as its storage supplier — then later that same year, Tesla acquired the solar energy provider.

Tesla’s hoping that the example of what it’s done in Kauai will act as a roadmap for what it can do for other commercial energy providers around the world. It’s also a key proof point for why it made sense to tie up Tesla and SolarCity via their merger last year.

Tesla CTO JB Straubel said that the unique aspect, and the most important, with this facility is that it’s the first time that a solar facility can deliver really reliable power delivery 24 hours a day, and operate when it’s needed most. It’s also a necessary step toward achieving 100 percent renewable energy sourcing, he says, since without the ability to defer power delivery the most you can ever hope for is 20 to 30 percent. He added that it’s a sign that they’re ready to truly deliver fully scalable facilities to suit the increasing size of demand across markets.

It can easily scale the other way, too, according to Straubel. He said at the launch that they’re seeing more customers who are looking to Powerpack for single-site energy backup, and also highlighted Powerwall, which offers the same to residential customers.

Straubel also stressed that Tesla wants to provide an “integrated, collaborative approach” to energy production and supply along with utilities, rather than espousing an “either/or approach,” which is a very sensible stance to take when you’re presenting alongside a utility company partner and client.

Hawaii governor David Ige also spoke at the event, highlighting the Hawaiian people’s commitment to renewable energy sources, which he says they see clearly “are the future.” He added that “storage is the challenge” for the state, despite abundance of renewable sources, including geothermal, solar and more. “The challenge is making energy available when the consumer needs it,” Ige said, which is why the project is something that the state found so attractive.

Ige said that he truly believes companies like Tesla who are willing to raise and invest funds in the task of making renewable energy affordable for everyday consumers are the way forward in achieving the state’s 100 percent renewable power goals.
